Hi there! My name’s Sam Aquillano, I’m the founder of Design Museum Everywhere, a really unique, nomadic museum about the transformative power of design. I started the Design Museum 13 years ago with my best friend, Derek Cascio; my friend, and Derek’s wife Jenna Cascio; my brother Steve; and an incredible group of designers and supporters. And I’m writing a book about our journey, it’s called Adventures in Disruption, How to Start, Survive, and Succeed as a Creative Entrepreneur.

This book is the story of how we launched and built our creative startup, coupled with all sorts of advice for starting your own venture.

Over the course of building this business, we redefined what it means to be a museum in the 21st century. We disrupted the entire notion of what a museum even is. Instead of a physical building, we built a global community of design thinkers and changemakers. And it was the ultimate adventure in creative entrepreneurship. Over the years I’ve shared parts of our founding story, but never the full story — there is so much to share from this journey.

In the book I share the real story — not a glossy, spruced up startup mythology, where I’m some sort of magical hero — I share the good, the bad, and the ugly — but most importantly I share how a group of people came together to make this vision a reality.

Creative entrepreneurship is the pursuit of launching and growing not just new businesses, but new kinds of businesses. It’s not easy and there’s no step-by-step process, but this book can serve as a guide for your startup adventure.
